Assistant Manager, Shaft
Primary Duties
• Support the Shaft Area Manager and participate in and manage various aspects of the Mine Expansion Project including, but not limited to: Leading the Owner’s construction team to safely execute and facilitate with construction of the following Shaft Area facilities:
▪ Shaft
▪ Bin House
▪ Loading Pocket
▪ Underground Ore and Waste Handling Infrastructure
▪ Water Handling Facility
▪ Buried Services
▪ Septic Bed
▪ Haul Road
• Participate, by reviewing and approving JHA’s, procedures and work plans to safely execute all work.
• Effectively communicate in writing and verbally with trades people, technical personnel, and management in different departments.
• Provide direction and guidance to other members on the Owner’s project team.
• Lead and ensure ongoing construction planning is carried out for all work packages to help ensure schedule, budget, quality, and safety performance are met.
• Ongoing oversight of the shaft sinking process, including: ▪ Participating in the contractor performance management / continuous improvements to ensure a safe and consistent shaft sinking operation.
• Ensure proper and adequate support are provided for sinking activities such as concrete, explosives and other owner supplied consumables management, geological / geotechnical mapping, grouting, alignment, equipping, ventilation management etc.
• Participation in the development and review of construction scopes and material supply RFP packages.
• Provide input during contract negotiations, enable, and hold contractors accountable to contract terms upon awarding to the successful proponent.
• Provide input to Project Controls team on project reporting, budgeting, and financial projections for Estimate at Completion (EAC) forecasts.
• Contribute during engineering design reviews by providing feedback from a constructability standpoint.
• Ensure adequate planning and efforts are dedicated towards System Commissioning and Operational Readiness.
