The Role: Automation Technician – Industrial / Mining
Our Client is seeking an experienced, technically skilled and safety-focused Automation Technician for their production team in Nairn Centre. This is a hands-on, plant-floor role in an industrial environment focused on automated assembly and requires someone with initiative and drive to add value to their existing team. This is a permanent full time role with an hourly rate of 40-$45/hour.
You'll be responsible for:
• Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
• Servo motor adjustments
• Diagnosing faulty sensors and wiring
• Performing mechanical adjustments to moving equipment
• Preventative maintenance and reporting
Strong organizational skills and a commitment to safety and clear communication are essential. While PLC programming and CAD skills are not required, they’re a nice-to-have for supporting remote teams and future in-house developments.
Key Responsibilities
• Set up and maintain automated production lines
• Diagnose and repair:
- Servo motors and motion systems
- Sensors, switches, and electrical wiring
- Pneumatics, VFDs, and mechanical drive systems
• Perform mechanical adjustments on moving equipment
• Maintain daily maintenance logs and weekly preventative reports
• Keep inventory and spare parts organized and accurate
• Support safe plant start-up and shutdown procedures
• Collaborate cross-functionally with assembly assistants and plant management
• Adhere strictly to safety, lockout/tagout, and hazardous materials protocols
What You’ll Need
• 3+ years of experience in industrial automation or electro-mechanical maintenance
• Certification or training in Electrical, Millwright, or Mechatronics (or equivalent)
• Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical systems
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals
• Strong organizational habits and recordkeeping discipline
• Team-oriented mindset with clear communication
• Physically fit, safety-first attitude
• Eligible to work in Canada with no criminal record and with a valid work visa in place
Nice to Have
• Experience in explosives or chemical manufacturing
• CAD software familiarity (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
• CMMS or digital maintenance log experience
• Servo-controlled automation support experience
• PLC software (Allen-Bradley)
Working Conditions
• Full-time, shift-based position
• Primarily on-site, plant floor-based
• Occasional overtime and standby required
• Industrial environment with strict safety protocols
