The Opportunity: Intermediate Mechanical Designer
Reporting to the Supervisor of Mechanical Engineering, you will join a highly specialized team of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and Designers within the Mine Hoist Division—operating as a globally recognized leader in mine hoist engineering.
In this role, you will contribute to the design and documentation of mine hoisting systems. Your responsibilities will include preparing detailed drafting designs, conducting site visits for inspections and data collection, and supporting project coordination across multiple active engagements.
You will work closely with internal engineering teams to maintain accurate technical records, ensure compliance with industry standards, and assist in the execution of project tasks. This includes reporting progress, managing time commitments, and supporting procurement, commissioning, and testing activities. Your contributions will help uphold the firm’s reputation for excellence in hoist plant design, certification, and maintenance across mining operations.
Your Key Accountabilities
• Technical and Documentation
o Develop and review mechanical drawings, scope of work documents, and bill of materials.
o Perform design and drafting using AutoCAD, Inventor, and Microstation in accordance with industry standards.
o Conduct site visits for data collection, verification, and documentation.
o Complete QAQC reviews and maintain accurate technical records.
o Follow industry standards and codes as instructed.
o Document work and maintain basic technical records.
• Business Development and Client Management
o Represent the organziation professionally with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
o Support client meetings and gather technical requirements for automation solutions.
o Assist with technical content for proposals and design packages.
o Communicate project updates and contribute to building positive client relationships.
o Manage time commitments between projects
o Communicate primarily with internal teams, with limited external interaction.
• Project Coordination and Management
o Plan and execute assigned tasks, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
o Track time and contribute to documentation such as progress reports and meeting minutes.
o Coordinate with internal and external teams for effective project delivery.
o Identify issues and recommend solutions to support successful outcomes.
• Professional Development
o Participate in training and certification programs.
o Attend relevant industry workshops and seminars.
o Mentor and train junior designers.
o Seek feedback and guidance from senior designers and engineers.
o Develop expertise in specific technical areas.
o Engage in learning opportunities to develop technical and professional skills.
Required Qualifications:
• A diploma in mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field is required.
• 4 to 7 years of relevant experience is required.
• Working towards Certified Engineering Technician (CET) Certification is considered a strong asset.
• Knowledge of industry codes and regulations is desirable.
• Familiarity with drafting and design software tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites applications.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high quality work.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable design practices.
• Valid Drivers License.
• Valid Passport required, with the ability to travel in North America.
Working Conditions
• Work is primarily performed in a regular office environment.
• Travel to client sites, throughout North America is required up to 25% of time to attend meetings and to conduct field visits.
Term: Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours/week)
Total Compensation
The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000 CAD per annum, based on the responsibilities of the role, internal equity, and current market benchmarks. The final offer will be determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications; their placement within our internal compensation structure; and relevant geographic cost of living considerations, where applicable. This range represents a realistic and good faith estimate of the compensation we expect to offer for this role.
