Intermediate Structural Designer

Your Role as an Intermediate Structural Designer

Reporting to the Supervisor of Structural Engineering Services, you will be responsible for developing structural designs of site infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, and earthworks for mining and industrial sites.  You will also conduct site assessments and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with industry standards. Your work will involve managing multiple project timelines, maintaining thorough documentation, and contributing to project coordination and reporting. This role also includes mentoring junior staff and supporting the delivery of engineering solutions in industrial and mining environments.  

Your Key Accountabilities

• Technical and Documentation  

o Develop detailed structural design drawings using AutoCAD and Civil3D.

o Support engineering teams in developing site layouts, grading plans, and earthworks.

o Review and incorporate geotechnical and survey data into designs.

o Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.  

o Support QAQC checks as directed.  

o Conduct site visits for data collection, assessment, and verification of design implementation.  

o Conduct quantity takeoffs and assist in cost estimation.

o Participate in client meetings to gather technical requirements under supervision.

o Manage time commitments between projects.

o Collaborate with internal teams to ensure integrated design solutions.

o Attend relevant industry workshops and seminars.  

o Seek feedback and guidance from senior designers and engineers.  

o Engage in learning opportunities to develop technical and professional skills.

Qualifications

• A diploma or degree in Civil or Structural Engineering Technology or a related field is required.

• 4 to 7 years of relevant experience in structural design, preferably in industrial or mining environments, is required.

• Knowledge of industry codes and regulations is desirable.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil3D is required.  

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites applications.  

• Strong analytical skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

• Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high quality work.

• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable design practices.

• Valid driver’s license.  

Working Conditions

• Work is primarily performed in a regular office environment.

• Travel to client sites is required on occasion to attend meetings and to conduct field visits.

Total Compensation

The salary range for this position is $75,000.00 to $ 106,000.00 CAD per annum, based on the responsibilities of the role, internal equity, and current market benchmarks. The final offer will be determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications; their placement within our internal compensation structure; and relevant geographic cost of living considerations, where applicable. This range represents a realistic and good faith estimate of the compensation we expect to offer for this role.
