Senior Estimator

Our client is presently recruiting a Senior Estimator responsible for estimating open pit mines, tailing dams and heavy civil contracts.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for estimating heavy civil, tailing dams and open pit mining projects.
  • Review of contract drawings, specifications, and quotes at the bidding stage.
  • Provide generally non-routine estimating guidance for projects.
  • Prepare detailed labour-force work plans for estimating activities.
  • Establish site-specific estimating criteria including wage and person-hour productivity rates.
  • Collaborate with other estimators for the development of cost estimates and construction schedules.
  • Quantity take–offs from the contract drawings and specifications.
  • Preparation of an estimate using Bid to Win or similar software.
  • Prepare and distribute RFQs, and solicit quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Complete tender closing and tender submissions.
  • Build project schedule and budget.
  • Monthly payment certificates to the owner and subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Develop a quality control plan with the QC manager and monitor compliance.
  • Display professionalism toward our company and customers.
  • Must maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment, both interior and exterior.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures: safety standards operations, maintenance, training, cleanliness standards, etc.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education:

  • Must possess a valid G Drivers License.
  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Civil Technologist/Technician.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of combined experience in estimating, scheduling, and project management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of cost estimating, engineering design, and heavy civil construction, tailing dams and open pit mining practices and applicable standards and procedures.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: civil construction, mining, mine contracting, and surface construction (all disciplines).
  • Must be competent with analysis, numeration, research, and the use of estimating and scheduling software and be familiar with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Word, Excel and Outlook, and Microsoft Project.
  • Must be willing travel for site visits and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to adapt to last-minute changes as dictated by the needs of our clients.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Must be capable of all physical requirements including working at heights, lifting (up to 50lb), bending, climbing, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
