Senior Mechanical Engineer - Design/Consulting
Your Role as Senior Mechanical Engineer
Reporting to the Supervisor of Mechanical Engineering Services, you will be playing a leadership role within a multi-discipline team to provide mechanical engineering design for detailed engineering projects. You are also responsible for leading design activities, maintaining project schedules and ensuring successful project completion. You will utilize your mechanical engineering expertise, act as a resource for industry codes, standards, and construction methods, and contribute to the expansion of the existing mechanical team and practice at the firm.
Your Key Accountabilities
• Technical Expertise & Documentation
o Lead and manage the design and analysis of mechanical systems including, but not limited to, underground and surface mining infrastructure, pumping and piping systems, industrial mechanical systems, and specification of various types of mechanical equipment.
o Develop and review mechanical engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
o Lead site visits for assessments, data collection, and provide recommendations for remedial action.
o Review and approve technical drawings and project documentation while ensuring QA/QC processes are followed.
• Collaboration & Project Coordination
o Collaborate with other engineers and project stakeholders to develop comprehensive mechanical design solutions that meet project requirements and objectives.
o Participate in project meetings, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to address technical challenges, resolve conflicts, and ensure seamless project delivery.
o Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to manage projects within budget, scope, and timeline requirements.
o Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing mechanical systems, identify potential issues, and provide recommendations for remedial action.
o Manage smaller mechanical and multi-discipline projects.
• Business Development & Client Management
o Assist in the preparation of project proposals, including scope definition and cost estimation, to secure new business opportunities.
o Maintain effective communication with clients, team members, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
o Manage smaller mechanical and multi-discipline projects, ensuring client satisfaction and project success.
• Professional Development & Mentorship
o Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior/intermediate engineers, reviewing their work for accuracy and adherence to design objectives.
o Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in mechanical engineering practices, applying them to enhance project efficiency and innovation.
o Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the engineering team, promoting best practices and adherence to industry standards.
Qualifications
• Bachelor degree in mechanical or mechatronics engineering.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation, registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or equivalent in Canada.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Extensive knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and guidelines with strong industrial experience.
• Extensive computer knowledge in industry applications, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Must have strong project management skills and experience in leading projects.
• Knowledge and experience in the following areas is considered an asset:
o Pumping systems
o ASME B31 pressure piping systems
o Underground dewatering and backfill systems
o Underground mine infrastructure
o Industrial HVAC
o Conveyor and material handling systems
o Compressed air systems
o Other industrial mechanical systems
o Construction support and on-site commissioning
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with exceptional report writing skills.
• Able to work independently and in a team environment to meet tight deadlines.
• Willingness to travel, if required, and attend meetings and field visits on client sites.
• Valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle is required.
Working Conditions
• Work is primarily performed in a regular office environment. Home office hybrid flexibility may be considered.
• Occasional travel to client sites to attend meetings or conduct field visits is required.
Term: Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours/week)
Total Compensation
The salary range for this position is $124,000.00 to $159,000.00 CAD per annum, based on the responsibilities of the role, internal equity, and current market benchmarks. The final offer will be determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications; their placement within our internal compensation structure; and relevant geographic cost of living considerations, where applicable. This range represents a realistic and good faith estimate of the compensation we expect to offer for this role.
